Spring, Summer & Fall

Lawn Care

Lawn Mower

We provide an affordable personalized lawn mowing service on a weekly, bi-weekly or one time basis. Our crews strive to service your yard on the same day of the week, weather providing. This schedule and a change in the cutting pattern helps keep the lawn looking full and healthy.

Proper mowing is one of the most important practices in keeping your lawn healthy. Grasses are like most plants — if you clip off the growing points (for grass, it's in the crown, where the new leaves develop), the plants branch out and become denser, which in this case, turns thousands of individual grass plants into a tightly woven turf or a lawn. If you didn't mow at all, your yard would look more like a prairie than a lawn. But the mere act of mowing isn't what makes a lawn look good. Mowing height and mowing frequency determine how healthy and attractive your lawn looks.

Power Raking or Dethatching

Power raker

Thatch is the layer of old dead grass etc. which accumulates on the ground surface preventing moisture and oxygen from reaching the grass roots.

With thatch removed, air, water, nutrients, herbicides and pesticides can do their job more efficiently. Turf becomes healthier and more resistant to insect damage and disease.

Dethatching at regular intervals promotes denser growth and ensures the vibrancy and resiliency of your lawn. The best time to thatch is in the late spring and fall when your lawn is dry and the thatch is light and fluffy. This allows maximum thatch removal while minimizing stress on your lawn.

Aeration

Aeration

There is a reason grass on many sports fields and golf courses always look perfect -- it is aerated and aerated and aerated. Core aeration pulls out plugs of soil to allow oxygen, moisture and fertilizer to reach the root system.

Aeration is the best fertilizer. The more holes, the better. Once the whole lawn has been aerated, it will look like a mess. Don't worry, the soil plugs will soon break down and disappear.

Fertilizing & Weed Control

Our weed control and fertizer program is an excellent way to keep your lawn green, thick and weed free. We can recommend a program of weed control and fertilizer for one time application or as a package throughout the season. If any one of our lawn care applications does not achieve satisfactory results, simply tell us. Your Class A Service technician will return for a one time application at no additional charge.

Spring and Fall Cleanup

Spring Cleanup

Hedge Trimming

Spring is the time to get your yard in shape for the growing season. Our crews will perform a thorough yard cleanup. We will clean out flower beds and if requested, turn the soil. Power rake the lawn to remove the thatch and give the lawn the first cut of the season. We then blow out debris from under hedges, window wells etc. and bag all debris. Early spring before growth begins is an excellent time to prune hedges and shrubs.

Fall Cleanups

Fall is the season to prepare your yard for the upcoming winter. Once most leaves are down, our crews will perform a fall cleanup. We will cut back the flower beds, at your request, and clean out the dead debris. We then blow out debris from under hedges, window wells etc. and give the lawn one last cut of the season which includes bagging of all debris. Fall is again an excellent time to prune hedges and schrubs to encourage healthy growth for spring. Although grass appears to stop growing in the fall, the roots are actually growing deeper to prepare for winter. Now is the best time to fertilize and reseed your lawn.

Ice Dams

Ice Dams

An ice dam is a ridge, or build-up of ice at the bottom edge of the roof. The problem with ice dams is that they allow additional melt water to pond, or puddle behind them. Shingle roofs are not designed to be waterproof. They are designed to shed water. Once water has accumulated, it generally finds a way into the home through nail penetrations, and behind flashings.

Ice dams can form in a variety of ways. The most common way is when large amounts of snow accumulate on a roof, and some of the snow begins to melt. The melt water runs down the roof underneath the snow blanket, and when it hits the cold edge of the roof, it refreezes. The ice builds and builds, eventually creating an ice dam that traps the rest of the melt water up on the roof. Other factors leading to ice dams are things like hot spots on the roof. They can occur around vents, skylights, or above an area that lacks sufficient insulation. These hot spots will melt the snow only to have it refreeze as it runs down the roof over a colder area of the roof, usually at the edge.
